PayPal fraud is one of many scams that is on the rise. A conman could make up a fake address with a POBox, as PayPal will allow an address that is unconfirmed. With a fake address, transactions are not covered by PayPals seller protection policy. The conman will buy the item through PayPal and collect the item as usual. Mr fraudster would then challenge the sale, claiming a refund pretending he never received the item. Then, unless you can provide a shipment tracking number as proof of delivery, PayPal will reverse a purchase transaction. Mr conman gets his money back.
Avoiding them scams. There are scams all over the internet. Never sign up to anything without reading the term and conditions and disclaimers. Do an internet search on the companies name and website. Research on scam forums, such as topix or scam.com. If you do have a complaint and your from the Uk, go to direct.gov.uk, or in America, the FTC. Do not let the hype and attractive advertising cloud your judgment. If you have purchased a product and have given out your bank details, check your monthly statements. Scammers and con artists could make purchases in your name. A dishonest merchant could repeatedly bill you monthly for a membership fee that you did not sign up for. If so, contact your card issuer immediately.
